The Sydney Dragon Blades were formed in 1992, as the University of Technology, Sydney Dragon Boat Club. In our first year of competition, we attained a 2nd place in the NSW State Finals of the University Mens Division.
While other university paddling clubs have come and gone, SDB is still the only dragon boat club in NSW who cater for university students and we welcome students from all universities. SDB's membership intake also includes the public; in fact, the professionalism and dedication of our mature paddlers can be credited for making our club one of the most competitive in Australia.
The club has maintained a tradition of translating hard work into good results, with a long history of triumphs. Most recently, SDB's Open A and Mixed A crews came 2nd in their respectively strong divisions at the Tacoma Regatta, while our Open B crew gained valuable experience for future regattas. SDB are currently preparing for the New South Wales State Titles (28th March), one of the steps towards our seasonal goal of competing for honours at the AusDBF National Championships in Adelaide (22-25th April 2010).

The team believes that races are won at training rather than the racing line, and dedication to a logical training plan translates into positive improvements. It's a team effort and for all the grumbling about aches and pains, we turn up for training and encourage each other. Training at SDB will never be easy; we know the goal, have the coaching expertise and are looking for people who can commit the hard yards to get there. Two of our members have been selected as divisional head coaches in the 2010 NSW Respresentative Squad - a testiment to the high regard of the superior coaching methods provided by SDB amongst those who understand sports performance and dragonboating in particular.
We're not looking for natural athletes, just ordinary people who don't waver from a goal. Does this sound like you?
Competing and excelling in elite competition is only one of the club's goals. Sydney Dragon Blades provides opportunities for members to hone their skills in various other aspects of sport, including sport science, coaching, administration and officialdom. We also have scope for social paddlers who come to us to meet new people or make a healthy change to their lives.
