Last week, DBNSW's business manager, Melanie Cantwell, attended a workshop on running media campaigns. She had been sent a link for the notes which contains lots of useful tips which could be used by us in our upcoming recruitment and sponsorship drives and generally for our communication with members. The link for the workshop presentation notes is here.

Importance of acceptable behaviour

All UTS-SDB Members,

Please read the below important message from the DBNSW President, Steven Davidson.

As the new season has already started, DBNSW Inc. would like to bring to the attention of all paddlers, coaches, officials and volunteers the importance of acceptable behaviour to members of your own Club, and others in the dragon boating community - during training, regattas, and other events, both on and off the water.

In particular the following should always be adhered to...

DBNSW Inc. Codes of Conduct Policy (ratified); and

DBNSW Inc. Harassment & Discrimination Policies (drafts)

As dragon boating continues to grow, bad sportsmanship, harassment and discrimination are not acceptable - everyone must be vigilant to ensure they do not occur in any form. It should be noted any violations of the policies or actions by a member prejudicial to DBNSW Inc. interests, could lead to a reprimand, suspension, or expulsion of that person from the Association.

Participants in our sport can also be confident that they are free to place a query or make a formal complaint where they observe, or are subject to any misconduct, at any time – via their MPIO, a DBNSW Inc. Board Member, or our Business Manager. During regattas, they can also approach the Chief Official.

As DBNSW Inc. takes this very seriously, I ask that you send this email to all your members, and having done so, respond by email back to Melanie Cantwell by Friday 30th October 2009 that this email has been distributed.

On a final note, it is very easy for our members to simply sign-up each year, and not read the forms and policies available. Please encourage your members to visit the DBNSW Inc. website and view them. The Codes of Conduct Policy is easily read in a few minutes.

All the policies can be found here: http://www.dbnsw.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=28&Itemid=43
